Please read on for the wines and pairings…

First plate:

2021 Rosa Dia: Provence styled Grenache dry Rose. Notes of fresh berries with crisp finish. A refreshing balance of fruit and acid and the perfect companion to Chef Tobias’ first plate.

Pairing: Poached North Carolina shrimp, remoulade, coastal plains watercress, heirloom tomatoes, with fresh herbs.

Second plate:

2019 Steel Fermented Chardonnay: We produce this Chardonnay in a style to celebrate the true excellence in this Queen of white wines. Pear, apple and slight lemon notes twist the tongue while the crisp acid finish refreshes the palate for another sip.

Pairing: A selection of North Carolina cheese, NC mountain apples, cardamon, and radish shoots.

Third plate:

2015 Merlot: In tasting through the wines with Chef Tobias, he took one sip of the Merlot, smiled and pronounced duck confit. Our merlot is soft, yet firm in the right places. A great accompaniment to duck, goose or other weighty fowl. Berry, plum and tease of tobacco with smooth firm finish.

Pairing: Five-spice duck confit, crispy shallots, North Carolina sweet potato, and pickled pepper.

Fourth plate:

2017 Cabernet Franc: Recently released to our wine club, the 2017 Cabernet Franc weaves subtle, delicate fruit notes to complement rich classic French cuisine. Great twist of berry fruit and hint of cedar.

Pairing:  Beef bourguignon, Goat Lady chèvre (Climax, NC), potato duchesse (pommes de terre duchesse) and Rosemary roasted oyster mushrooms.

Fifth Plate:

2017 Rock & Rail: One of the most desired wines produced by Jones von Drehle. A blend of the classic Bordeaux grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Powerful without being overpowering. Gentle but with a great backbone. If it is not beef it is paired with, let it be chocolate, and so it is!

Pairing: Spiced chocolate cake, walnut ganache, blood orange marmalade & candied orange.

We hope you can join us for a great celebration of wine and food!

Starlight Cafe was started in downtown Greenville in 2000 by Susan and Alan Boutilier. At the time, we shared a small space with a local bakery. In January 2002, we moved to our current location and their son, Tobias Boutilier, moved here from New Jersey to be our new Executive Chef. In 2008 we expanded to the building next door to accommodate an oyster bar and more seating.

In January 2011, after searching for a family farm for several years, we finally found the perfect location: a one-hundred-year-old, 22-acre farm, with barns, fenced pastures and century old trees, just minutes from our restaurant. After being in the restaurant business for 29 years our family dream was finally coming true. The farm includes raising heritage livestock breeds, beekeeping, planting berries and produce, processing pecans and experimenting with different sustainable and organic methods of growing. This project is an exciting one for our family and everyone involved. Our goal is to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal produce from our own farm, while also supporting other local farmers and watermen in our area. Click on this Link to read an Our State article on Chef Tobias’ food and culture.  We are proud our wines are served in his restaurant and excited he is bringing his cuisines for a day to JvD.
